In vitro Nobiletin, un flavonoide cítrico aislado de cáscaras de cítricos como la mandarina, que tiene actividades antiinflamatorias y antitumorales. Este compuesto, un polimetoxiflavonoide, se identifica como un inhibidor de la generación de NO y O 2-. Inhibe significativamente dos inflamaciones cutáneas inducidas por la aplicación doble de TPA. También suprime la expresión de ciclooxigenasa-2 y proteínas de NO sintasa inducible y la liberación de prostaglandina E2. Este químico inhibe la actividad invasiva tumoral de las células de fibrosarcoma humano HT-1080 en el modelo Matrigel, no solo suprimiendo la expresión de MMPs sino también aumentando la producción de TIMP-1 al interferir con la vía de la fosfatidilinositol 3-quinasa (PI3-K). También puede prevenir la aterosclerosis a nivel de la pared vascular al inhibir la formación de células espumosas de macrófagos.
