Biologische activiteit

Beschrijving Sinomenine (Cucoline, Kukoline), een zuiver alkaloïde geëxtraheerd uit de Chinese geneeskrachtige plant Sinomenium acutum, wordt gebruikt voor de behandeling van reuma en artritis.
In vitro Sinomenine, een zuiver alkaloïde geëxtraheerd uit de Chinese geneeskrachtige plant Sinomenium acutum, wordt gebruikt voor de behandeling van reuma en artritis. De pijnstillende werking tegen andere soorten pijn is echter beperkt. Deze verbinding is een morfinanderivaat, verwant aan opioïden zoals levorphanol en het niet-opioïde hoestonderdrukkende middel dextromethorfan. De anti-reumatische effecten worden voornamelijk gemedieerd via de afgifte van histamine, maar andere effecten zoals de remming van de synthese van prostaglandine, leukotriënen en stikstofoxide kunnen ook een rol spelen.
